XIXILI - indixixililive Best of the Breast Show 2023

October, one of the most important month in our yearly calendar. That’s right, it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, also known as the Pink October month. This is the time where we raise awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection and how to do your monthly self-breast examination.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women worldwide. Even in Malaysia, it is the most common form of cancer that is affecting women. About one in 19 women in Malaysia is at risk, come to one in 8 women in Europe and Malaysia. Hence, it is one of our mission in XIXILI to educate more women about breast cancer. So what are the ways women can protect themselves? We highly encourage all of you to perform regular self-breast examination and mammograms if you are above 40s.

This year, we spread the message of breast cancer awareness, with our first ever Pink October show. What better way to get the information across, through a theatrical comedy performance. This was organized in collaboration with SIFU Production and was held at PJ PAC, 1 Utama. A catchy name “indiXIXILIlive” is definitely befitting for this event.

The whole evening was a hive of activity. Starting with the wonderful indiXIXILIlive Pink October photo wall, and we are delighted to see so many wonderful photos uploaded to their social media. There were other booths outside at the event area, where guests can customize their own personal XIXILI Pink October tote bag. Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia’s (BCWA) The Inflatable Clinic also made their way to the event where nurses from BCWA conducted an on site breast checkup for guests. There was also an informative talk from BCWA on breast cancer.

What is an event without some refreshments? Our canapes were catered from Engkita,  a social project by Bay Laurel Fine Foods, and they empower women from the B40 and refugee community to not just earn a living, but also create a better future for themselves and their family through their culinary creativity. Among some of the appetizing canapes prepared by these wonderful women, the panni poori, an Indian street snack food, was the crowd favourite. Some of our other favourites are the focaccia sandwiches, samosas, pesto arancini, and the classic tomatoes and basil bruschetta. The vanilla panna cotta and coconut empanadas made their way to end the meal.

The main highlight of the day was of course the show curated by SIFU Production, which embraces inclusivity towards all body types, races, genders and positivity. What a better way to spread the message of breast cancer awareness through a theatrical comedy performance which was absolutely memorable. The show satirizes the insane society we are living in through a high-octane line up of everyday characters, familiar situations, and parodies of songs we’ve heard and are familiar with. Some of the sketches presented touched on Malaysian issues, such as from racial representations to artificial intelligence, and on women matters such as on menstrual pain and birth control methods.

Perhaps one of the most important part is at the finale, which touches on how to perform your own self breast examination, an energetic end with our actors and actresses dancing and demonstrating to the tune of Carly Rae Jepson’s Call Me Maybe.

To end the night, guests were treated to a goodie bag procured from Power Up! They are a women’s empowerment program by WAO to empower gender-based violence survivors or women from low-income and underprivileged backgrounds, towards economic and emotional resilience and self-sufficiency.

XIXILI’s Best of the Breast, definitely an unforgettable evening of entertainment, empowerment, and enlightenment, all while championing a crucial cause, breast cancer awareness!

In the spirit of Pink October, XIXILI has contributed RM10,000 to Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia to support their efforts towards breast cancer awareness and activities. A special shoutout to all XIXILI customers for making this happen, as a portion of sales from the bags goes towards this donation to BCWA.
